Lindos

A town straight out of a fairytale

Lindos is the second most popular destination of Rhodes, after the Old Town. The settlement, built at the base of a huge stone, is surrounded by the bright blue waters of the Aegean Sea. On the top, it is located the monumental Acropolis of Lindos, a place with great history and rare beauty.

In the Acropolis of Lindos, you will discover various monuments, which are dated back at the archaic era. The most important of these are the temple of Athena Lindia, the propylaea and the “Hellenistic Arcade”. The exquisite architecture, influenced by the Italians during the era of the Knights, combined with the magnificent, sandy beaches around the settlement make Lindos a one-of-a-kind destination. As a result, more and more tourists arrive every year to admire the place.

At the city’s heart, you’ll get lost in countless picturesque alleys with totally white houses and you will, of course, find many tourist shops, where you can buy loads of different souvenirs. As the night falls, music and dance are thriving in alleys, restaurants and cocktail bars, filled with people.

Last but not least, the Saint Paul Βeach is a really special destination of Lindos, since it combines pebbles, sand, and small rocks. Because of its clear, blue waters, the beach is included in the best 10 beaches in Europe. It is relatively shallow, which makes it suitable for both children and adults.

Prasonisi

An island… that isn’t an island

At the southernmost point of Rhodes, 42 km from Estrella Villas, you will find Prasonisi, a geological formation that looks like an island. During the summer, a long sand strip of 500 m connects it with Rhodes. In the winter, due to the tide, this sand strip disappears and as a result Prasonisi transforms into an island!

The two beaches that are exposed because of the low tide create a marvelous, captivating view. Due to the wind, the right side has always waves and is great for windsurfing and kitesurfing, while at the left side, the sea is calm, making it perfect for swimming. Because of its pure beauty, Prasonisi is a protected area of Natura 2000.

At the edge of the “island”, there is a lighthouse, built in 1890, from where you can admire the view of the area.

On your way to Prasonisi, you will encounter Tsambika Beach, one of the most famous beaches of Rhodes, because of its golden sand and blue waters.

City of Rhodes

The city that was loved by Knights

The Old City of Rhodes is the most important sight of the island. Its construction started at the end of the 7th century on the ruins of the preexisting Hellenistic settlement and it gradually transformed into a whole Βyzantine city. With the arrival of the Order of the Knights in Rhodes, the fortifications of the island expanded, its area went larger and the old walls were replaced by new ones. These walls, with length of 4 km, are still the most characteristic element of the city while the so-called Street of the Knights is still the main artery of the city. The next centuries, the island was conquered at first by the Ottomans and later by the Italians, who as expected, left their mark to the city design.

Until today, the Old City has remained especially impressive. The visitors get lost in a maze of narrow alleys, surrounded by small houses and medieval buildings from the era of Knights. Almost 35 medieval churches and several mosques coexist in the streets of this charming city, bringing together the european and the oriental element. In order to make sure that the beauty and the uniqueness of of the city is preserved, UNESCO included it in the World Heritage list.

While taking your walk in the Old City, don’t skip the big Ippokratous Square, full of restaurants and cafes, and the Square of Jewish Martyrs with its impressive seahorse fountain. In the most commercial and busy streets of the city, Aristotelous and Socratous, you will get to admire the architecture of the buildings and find stores of any kind to do your shopping.

From ancient times, these thermal springs were quite famous for their water’s therapeutic properties and at the Knights era, the place was a meeting point for lots of people. Later on, researches that were conducted by Mario Lago, political commander of the Dodecanese and the doctor Enya Bournetti, confirmed these healing properties of the water, known as “Tsilonero”. In 1927, the construction of the springs started, with Pietro Lombardi as the architect, aiming to create a spa town. The opening of Kallithea Springs was held in July 1st 1929. However, the springs were found totally destroyed after the liberation from Germany and in 1967 they were permanently closed. Their renovation took place in 2008 and since then, the place has been hosting plenty of exhibitions and events.

Arriving at the springs, the first thing you will notice is the old facilities of Kallithea Springs.
